The Red Skelton Show – The Nervous Tenor’s Audition – Nervous George Appleby has as chance to audition for David Rose – if he can stop fainting! San Fernando Red has to placate the Temperance League and Bar Owners Association – simultaneously!
The Nervous Tenor’s Audition – The Red Skelton Show season 3, originally broadcast October 13, 1953
Monologue
Red opens the program with a demonstration of different people at a movie theater, such as a man running for the streetcar to get to the theater, the overly-grinning ticket taker, the usher, a movie-goer trying to find a seat in the middle of the row, and a man who can’t see the screen because the lady in front of him has a high hat.
The Nervous Tenor’s Audition

The Nervous Tenor is George Appleby, who uncharacteristically has a loving and sympathetic wife. He’s got a chance to audition for David Rose — but keeps fainting at the sight of the man! But he’s not afraid to sing in front of his wife, when he thinks they’re alone, and does a touching rendition of “Foggy Foggy Dew” – until he realizes that David Rose is back, and he faints again!
San Fernando Red’s reelection

The Barry Sisters sing “It’s a Good Day From Morning to Night.” San Fernando Red McGraft is running for re-election for Councilman. But he has a meeting with the Bar Owners Association, whose money he needs. But the Temperance League storms into his office, demanding that he promises to shut down all the bars! So goes back and forth between the two groups in different rooms, drinking tea with one group, and booze with the other. Gradually getting more and more inebriated!
