It Happened at the Station House – The Red Skelton Show season 3, broadcast December 15, 1953
Monologue
- I went out to get a Christmas tree. I wanted to get a green one. You know, out here in California you can’t find a green tree. They’re white, pink, purple, yellow. Well I’m gonna have a green one! I bought a white one, I’m gonna paint it!
In his opening monologue, Red does several Christmas jokes and a couple of Gertrude and Heathcliffe gags

The first sketch, titled “It Happened at the Station House”, features Clem Kadiddlehopper volunteering to entertain free of charge at the police officer’s Christmas party. With his singing! Those poor police officers … But instead, he’s framed by four pickpockets (the Sportsmen Quartet) for the thefts they’ve committed. During the skit, Clem and the Sportsmen sing, “Jimmie Crack Corn.”
Water the plant
In the second sketch, Willie Lump Lump comes home from buying a loaf of bread — from a store that’s only 5. minutes away — four hours later! He tells his wife he’s had nothing to drink … but had as large slice of rum cake! One of the store workers has wheeled him home in a cart, and gets pulled into the chaos. Poor Mrs. Lump Lump asks him to water a plant while she runs an errand — leading to the near destruction of their apartment!
