In order to stretch George Appleby‘s paycheck a little further, the Appleby’s decide to take in a boarder. Who promptly takes control of the house! Until George discovers that he’s a con man on the run …
Appleby’s Bearded Boarder, with John Carradine and Marie Windsor, The Red Skelton Show season 11, broadcast March 6, 1962
It’s a relatively quiet night at the Appleby’s — except for George’s snoring!

And the new boarder shows up — at 3:00 a.m.! And despite not being paid the rent, Clara’s totally taken with him!

George Appleby has come home to find out his wife (Marie Windsor) has cooked them a dinner of a lima bean under the advice of their boarder (John Carradine). “For breakfast and lunch you chew; for dinner you swallow.” Meanwhile, the boarder feasts upon a delicious T-Bone steak! Until George discovers that he’s actually a con man on the run!

Routines
- As they’re lying in bed, George Appleby keeps cracking up Clara (Marie Windsor) who’s striving to stay in character!
- Running gag, following the rule of three, where (in the middle of the night) George holds out his hand for the rent money – and Abdul puts his ashes in it! Until the third time, when he puts the cigarette out in the palm of George’s hand!
- Abdul eats steak, while George and Clara eat a single lima bean!
- After exposing Abdul as a con man, George eats a piece of his steak incredibly slowly – a hilarious bit.
